Korean Skincare Routine for Beginners: 4 Steps Instead of 10

Heard about the famous 10-step Korean routine and felt your head spin? Relax. The truth is, most people in Seoul don't do ten steps every night — and in 2026, even the leading brands are betting on fewer, smarter products.

The good news: you don't need ten bottles to see a difference in your skin. You need four steps and a little consistency. Here's what the Korean ritual looks like, simplified.

Why 4 steps instead of 10?

The classic 10 steps were never a requirement — they're a menu you choose from. The idea behind K-beauty isn't quantity, it's layering: thin layers of hydration that your skin absorbs better than one heavy cream.

For a beginner, the most important thing is to start small and do it regularly. Four steps every night beats ten steps once a week.

Step 1 — Cleanse

It all starts with clean skin. In the evening, Koreans use double cleansing: first an oil cleanser, then a gentle gel.

  • The oil dissolves sunscreen, makeup, and the oils that water can't catch. Start with a cleansing oil — massage it onto dry skin and rinse.
  • The gel or foam washes away the residue and leaves skin clean, but not "squeaky." Check out the foams and gels.

In the morning, a gentle splash of water or a light gel is enough — don't strip your skin first thing in the day.

Step 2 — Treat

This is where the magic happens. After cleansing, your skin is ready to take in active ingredients. Layer from thinnest to thickest:

1. Toner — restores moisture and preps the skin. It's not the stinging alcohol toner of the '90s, but a hydrating step. Browse the toners. 2. Serum or essence — concentrated care for your specific concern (dryness, pores, uneven tone). If you're new, start with something gentle like a snail mucin essence. See the serums.

Tip: wait a minute between layers so each product can sink in.

Step 3 — Protect

Now you lock in everything you've applied.

  • Cream — a light moisturizer seals in the hydration so it doesn't evaporate. Browse the creams.
  • Sunscreen (mornings only!) — this is the single most important anti-aging step there is. Without SPF, the rest of your routine loses half its point. Korean formulas are lightweight and leave no white cast — see the suncare.

Step 4 — Restore

This is the "once or twice a week" step, not every night. Your skin repairs itself most actively while you sleep — give it a hand:

  • A night mask or sheet mask delivers intense hydration. Browse the masks.

You don't need to do this daily. Once a week is a great start.

Where do I start?

Don't buy everything at once. Start with a cleanser, a toner, and sunscreen — that's the backbone of any good routine. Add serums and masks once your skin has settled in.

Not sure what's right for you? Take the skin quiz — 5 questions, 2 minutes, and we'll build a routine for you. Or browse the ready-made bundles if you'd rather have everything in one place.

Your skin doesn't need more products. It needs the right ones — and a little patience.
